A 14-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a brutal stabbing incident that occurred in broad daylight on a Friday morning outside a public housing complex in Bronx, according to law enforcement officials. The victim, identified as Caleb Rios, was reportedly stabbed twice in the chest around 9:25 a.m. behind a building located on East 138th Street near Lincoln Avenue, a part of the New York City Housing Authority’s Mitchel Houses in Mott Haven.
The severity of the attack left Rios unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency services quickly transported him to Lincoln Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The incident took place at the rear of a Bronx NYCHA complex, and Rios was pronounced dead at Lincoln Medical Center.
As of now, law enforcement officials have not made any arrests in connection with the case. Information regarding a potential suspect or motive behind the attack was not immediately available. According to sources, Rios, who resided within the complex albeit at a different address, had no previous arrest records.
This incident marks another violent episode involving the city’s youth, following a turbulent start to the year. On New Year’s Day, ten young individuals were shot outside a club in Queens. A day later, a 17-year-old boy was shot outside his school in Brooklyn. These incidents highlight the escalating violence involving teenagers in the city, raising concerns about their safety and the need for more effective measures to curb such incidents.
The authorities are urging anyone with information about the stabbing to come forward. They are particularly interested in any eyewitness accounts or surveillance footage that could help identify the perpetrator. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
