18-Year-Old Woman Gunned Down on University Campus

DOVER, Del. — A young woman was tragically killed in a shooting incident at Delaware State University, according to local authorities. The incident occurred on Sunday on the university campus in Dover.

The Dover police force was notified of the shooting around 1:40 a.m. after reports of gunfire on the premises. Upon arrival, officers found an 18-year-old female from Wilmington, who was not a student at the university, with a gunshot wound to her upper torso. The incident took place near the Warren-Franklin Hall, which is primarily occupied by first-year students.

Emergency medical aid was administered at the scene, but despite the best efforts of the medical team, the victim was later pronounced dead at Bayhealth Kent Campus. The identity of the victim has not been released as authorities are in the process of notifying her family. No additional injuries were reported, and a description of the possible suspect is not yet available.

In response to the incident, Delaware State University issued a statement announcing the closure of the campus on Sunday, with all scheduled activities cancelled and no visitations permitted. The university also mentioned increased police patrols around the campus in light of the incident.

Delaware State University has assured its community that counseling services will be available at the Tubman Laws Hall housing office, and they are committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of their community. The Dover police and the university’s police force are conducting a joint investigation into the shooting, which has been classified as a homicide.
