3 Dead, Multiple Injured in Grocery Store Shooting

FORDYCE, Ark. – A shooting at a grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas, has resulted in three fatalities and multiple injuries, including two police officers, on Friday, June 21. According to the Arkansas State Police (ASP), the incident occurred at the Mad Butcher grocery store.

Authorities swiftly responded to the shooting after receiving reports of shots fired. The shooter was subsequently confronted by an officer and sustained non-life-threatening injuries before being taken into custody. Mike Hagar, Secretary of Public Safety and Director of ASP, assured the community during a news briefing that the situation is now under control and there are no ongoing threats.

The exchange of gunfire left eleven innocent civilians wounded, with three succumbing to their injuries. Two officers also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Hagar emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with the Arkansas State Police leading the effort. The suspect responsible for the shooting has been identified as 44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey of New Edinburg, located 10 miles southeast of Fordyce.

Local officials expressed shock and devastation in the wake of the tragedy. Fordyce City Counselor Roderick Rogers called 911 and described the incident as a “very devastating day.” Witnesses at the scene, including sisters Amiya and Ashia Doherty, conveyed their fear and concern for those affected, expressing gratitude for their own safety.

Eyewitness David Rodriguez captured the chaos on his phone and described the rapid response of law enforcement and the sound of rapidly firing bullets.

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter), offering condolences and commending the actions of law enforcement and first responders.
