5th Person Reported Dead at Disney Resort in Less Than a Month

Disney World, the famed Florida resort, has been the site of a string of tragic incidents, with five people reported dead within a month. The most recent fatality occurred on November 8 at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, located in Lake Buena Vista, near Disney Springs. The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the death but transferred the case to the deceased’s personal physician.

The news of the incident first came to light through a Disney World-focused social media account, “Walt Disney World: Active Calls,” which tracks real-time police activity across the sprawling theme park. The account reported an individual “down” at the Saratoga Springs property at 3:18 p.m., and shortly after, updated the status to “dead.”

Saratoga Springs Resort is a Victorian-style establishment nestled between manicured golf-course greens. It offers a variety of amenities including pools, a spa, and multi-bedroom villas. Some of the accommodations can cost up to $2,300 per night, according to the resort’s website. The details surrounding the recent death remain undisclosed.

Disney and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office have not yet commented on the incident. This recent death is the latest in a series of fatalities that began on October 14. Summer Equitz, a 31-year-old Disney enthusiast, was found dead at the Contemporary Resort in what local authorities believe was a suicide.

Following this, a man in his 60s, whose identity has not been disclosed, died from a pre-existing medical condition at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground on October 21. The Contemporary Resort was again the site of a tragedy on October 23 when Matthew Alec Cohn, a 28-year-old aspiring football referee from Los Angeles, reportedly jumped from the 12th floor of the hotel.

The series of deaths continued on November 2 when a woman in her 40s was found unresponsive at Disney’s Pop Century Resort, a budget hotel connected to Epcot and Hollywood Studios near the Skyliner. She was later pronounced dead.
