SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A mother in San Antonio has been charged with capital murder in connection with the death of her 6-year-old daughter. The suspect, Nephiterea Sancho, 36, was arrested on Wednesday after police responded to a disturbance call at an apartment complex.
According to authorities, when police arrived at the scene, they found the child, identified as Hosanna Sancho, unresponsive with an apparent wound to her upper body. It has not been disclosed what caused the alleged attack by the mother.
Nephiterea Sancho was found running around naked at the scene and was subsequently taken into custody. She has a history of severe mental illness and had previously been convicted of injury to a child in 2010. She was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was sent to a state hospital for treatment.
The exact cause of Hosanna’s death has not been disclosed, but police have confirmed that there was no gunshot wound.
Nephiterea Sancho is currently being held in the Bexar County Jail on a bond of $1 million. It is unclear whether she has entered a plea or has legal representation.
