60-Year-Old Skydiver Plunged to His Death

A tragic incident unfolded in Boulder County, Colorado, when a 60-year-old skydiver lost his life after his parachute failed to fully deploy. The incident occurred on November 16, just after 3 p.m., when local authorities were alerted to a parachutist lying face down and unresponsive in a field.

The victim was later identified as Takashi Koyama, a seasoned skydiver. Despite immediate attempts to resuscitate him, Koyama was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and the Boulder County Coroner.

An eyewitness at the landing site reported seeing Koyama in a rapid free-fall spin a few hundred feet above the ground. The witness noted that Koyama’s parachute did not appear to be fully deployed. Danielle, a local resident who witnessed the incident, recounted noticing something green on the ground, which she initially thought was a parachute. Upon closer inspection, she realized it was a person and immediately called 911.

The incident took place near the Mile-High Skydiving Center. The center confirmed that an incident had occurred on the premises that day. Koyama was an experienced skydiver and was qualified to make solo jumps, according to local law enforcement.

Koyama’s son, Shizuka Koyama, paid tribute to his father in a heartfelt GoFundMe statement. He described his father as a remarkable man who deeply loved both Japan and America, the two countries he called home. Shizuka, a nursing student, also revealed that his mother had passed away years ago, leaving him as the sole family member to handle the aftermath of this tragedy.

Shizuka has set up a fundraiser to help cover the costs of cremating his father and laying him to rest in both Japan and the US, as a tribute to the life his father lived to the fullest. The fundraiser has so far raised over $1,300 of its $7,000 goal.
