7-Year-Old Child Shot in Home

A 7-year-old boy was injured in a shooting incident in a Bronx home on Sunday afternoon, marking the third time in a week that a minor has been a victim of gun violence in the borough, according to police reports. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. in a residence on East 230th Street in the Wakefield neighborhood, where the boy was shot in his left hand.

The boy’s family, whose identity has not been disclosed by the police, rushed him to Jacobi Medical Center. He was reported to be in stable condition. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the possibility that the child may have accidentally shot himself after gaining access to the firearm.

The police were alerted to the incident through a 911 call. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. This incident is the latest in a series of shootings involving children in the Bronx over the past week.

On May 12, a 16-year-old girl named Evette Jeffrey was fatally shot in the head near a schoolyard. She had just returned from celebrating her anniversary with her boyfriend at a local Chinese restaurant when she was caught in the crossfire of a gang-related shootout. She was not the intended target, according to police.

Mayor Eric Adams visited the scene of the tragic incident that night and spoke with a group of frightened parents. Adams expressed his concern about the deadly shooting, stating that several lives had been destroyed. He emphasized the city’s commitment to creating safe environments for young people.

The following day, an 11-year-old boy was injured in another shooting incident. Teenagers reportedly opened fire on a rival gang just blocks away from where Jeffrey was killed. Although the shooters missed their intended targets, a bullet shattered the rear passenger side window of a passing car, injuring the boy with shards of glass. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

The driver of the car was also injured in the incident, having been shot in the shoulder. He too is reported to be in stable condition. The shooters managed to escape the scene on Citi Bikes.
