Police said a warrant has been filed as investigators review the death of 7-year-old Paris Williams.
ADDIS, La. — A 7-year-old girl died after she was possibly injured during a domestic incident involving two adults at an Addis trailer park, police said.
The West Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office identified the child as Paris Williams. Addis police said officers were called Wednesday night to MyHand Trailer Park after receiving a report that a young girl was unresponsive. When officers arrived, CPR was already in progress. Paris was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
Addis Police Chief Jason Langlois said investigators believe the child may have been injured during a physical altercation between two adults inside a mobile home. Police have not released the names of the adults involved. Officials also have not said exactly how Paris was injured or whether she was directly struck during the altercation.
Authorities said an autopsy was ordered to determine the child’s cause and manner of death. Langlois said a warrant has been filed for a suspect in connection with the case, but police had not released the suspect’s name in the initial public reports. Investigators said additional information may be released as the case moves through the legal process.
The incident happened at MyHand Trailer Park in Addis, a small town in West Baton Rouge Parish near the Mississippi River. Police remained focused on collecting witness statements, reviewing the scene and working with the coroner’s office to determine what happened before emergency crews were called.
The death drew attention across the Baton Rouge area because of the child’s age and the early indication that she may have been caught in a violent domestic situation. Officials have released few details, citing the active investigation and pending autopsy findings.
No final ruling on the cause of death had been announced as of Friday. The next major steps are the autopsy results, the execution of any filed warrant and a decision on formal charges.
