95-Year-Old Woman Attacks, Kills Fellow Nursing Home Resident

A shocking event took place late Sunday evening at a nursing home in Brooklyn. A 95-year-old woman, suffering from dementia, is alleged to have attacked and fatally injured an 89-year-old fellow resident using a part of a wheelchair. The incident happened at the Seagate Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, located on West 29th Street near Surf Avenue, as per the information provided by law enforcement.

The elderly woman reportedly hit the victim multiple times in the head during a disagreement that broke out shortly after 10 p.m. The victim was found in her bed, suffering from severe head injuries. She was immediately rushed to NYU Brooklyn Hospital. Initially, she was listed in critical condition, but she later succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of Monday.

The alleged perpetrator, also a resident of the nursing home, was transported to Coney Island Hospital for both physical and psychiatric evaluation. Currently, she is not facing any charges due to her advanced age and diagnosis of dementia, as per sources.

The identities of both women have not been disclosed by the police. The part of the wheelchair allegedly used in the fatal attack was discovered on the pavement outside the facility, marked off by blue crime scene tape on Monday afternoon.

A 77-year-old woman, who identified herself as Elaine, expressed her shock at the violent incident. She had been visiting her sister at the nursing home and was leaving when she learned about the attack. “I’m a nervous wreck for my sister,” she said. “That could’ve been my sister.” She also expressed sympathy for the victim’s family, saying, “Her poor family.”

The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of residents in nursing homes, especially those with cognitive impairments such as dementia. It highlights the necessity for adequate supervision and care for these vulnerable individuals to prevent such tragic incidents from happening.
