In a riveting court case taking place in Henderson, 47-year-old Evan Michaels is on trial for the alleged murder of Jonathan Mallette, the father of her children, which occurred in August 2023. Michaels, who has a history in the adult film industry under the aliases Nikki Fairchild and Tracy Tavares, is accused of brutally killing Mallette with a stick and subsequently beheading him at his home.
The prosecution has presented a chilling account of the events, suggesting that Michaels attempted to burn Mallette’s remains using chemicals. Images from the crime scene, which depict bottles of these chemicals, have been introduced as evidence. The case has been described by the prosecution as a “wild ride,” alluding to the tumultuous relationship between Michaels, Mallette, and his son, Debbie Year Mallette, whom Michaels married in 2021.
The defense, led by attorney Proper Trask, offers a contrasting narrative. They argue that the Henderson police overlooked other potential suspects, focusing their investigation solely on Michaels. Trask highlighted a message sent by Michaels to Debbie Year Mallette just days before the murder, in which she accused him of infidelity and expressed her desire to end their marriage.
The prosecution maintains that Michaels viewed Mallette’s death as the only way to secure the future she wanted, especially after losing custody of her two children. Mallette, conversely, was reportedly moving into Michaels’ home in search of stability.
Debbie Year Mallette, who is not being charged, is expected to testify during the trial. Prosecutors have confirmed that no cell phone or video evidence implicates him in the crime.
Adding to the intricacy of the case, the murder weapon and Mallette’s head have yet to be discovered. Michaels’ legal troubles continue to escalate, as she was previously in court on a child abuse charge shortly after the alleged murder.
