In a shocking incident, a man’s body was found in a freezer behind a Florida bar, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Department. The gruesome discovery was made by workers who were dropping off ice in the freezer at the Chicagoan Bar, located at 10702 NW 7th Avenue. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on March 28.
Upon arrival, deputies and paramedics found the body and traces of blood inside the cooler. The victim, who has yet to be publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Following an autopsy, it was determined that the man had died as a result of homicidal violence.
The investigation led to the arrest of 35-year-old Oscar Rivera-Peraza on charges of second-degree murder on Tuesday. The arrest was facilitated by the discovery of fraudulent identification left behind at the scene, which pointed to Rivera-Peraza as a potential suspect.
According to arrest documents obtained by local NBC affiliate WTVJ and CBS affiliate WFOR, Rivera-Peraza, after being read his Miranda rights, confessed to the crime. He admitted to beating the victim to death with a metal pipe and subsequently hiding the body in the cooler. The motive behind the crime remains undisclosed by the police.
Local residents, who believe the victim to be homeless, expressed their shock at the incident. Workers in the vicinity were taken aback, with one employee telling WTVJ, “Even in this kind of neighborhood, I would not expect that here.”
Rivera-Peraza was transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he is currently being held without bond. He has been assigned a public defender and is scheduled for a court hearing on April 22.
