Adam Beckerink, a 46-year-old man from Chicago, Illinois, has been apprehended by Cook County police on an out-of-state warrant related to domestic violence allegations. The arrest comes after his wife, Caitlin Tracey, 36, was discovered deceased at the bottom of a stairwell in their Chicago condominium in October 2024. The cause of Tracey’s death remains undisclosed.
Beckerink, originally from Michigan, had a warrant issued in his name from his former state of residence. The warrant was linked to his failure to appear in court for an aggravated assault charge. The couple had previously resided in Michigan, where court records indicate a history of domestic violence allegations against Beckerink.
Tracey’s death was not directly linked to Beckerink, despite her body being found in a severely damaged state after a fall from the 24th floor of their building. The police report also noted that she was missing a foot. However, Beckerink was held in Chicago for questioning in relation to her death.
Court documents from Michigan reveal that police had observed physical injuries on Tracey in January 2024, including cuts on her lips and other red markings. Tracey had also reported that Beckerink had allegedly assaulted her and stolen some of her belongings.
In August 2024, police revisited the couple’s home. Beckerink was due to appear in a Michigan court on October 29, 2024, for the assault charge. However, he was detained in Chicago for questioning about Tracey’s death just days before his court date. The arrest warrant for his failure to appear at the October 29 hearing was issued on October 31, 2024.
At the time of Tracey’s death, the couple had been married for only six months. However, court records from their previous residence in Michigan reveal a troubled history. In October 2023, Tracey had filed for a protection order against Beckerink, citing four instances of domestic abuse. She later withdrew her request after Beckerink threatened to sue her for defamation and libel.
Currently, Beckerink faces six felony charges and two misdemeanors in Berrien County, Michigan, including domestic violence and resisting arrest. He is expected to be extradited to Michigan to face these charges and is being held in Cook County Jail without bond.
