The circumstances surrounding the death of Joshua Blackledge, a 16-year-old TikTok personality with a following of over a million, have been revealed nearly three months after his untimely demise. Blackledge took his own life at his residence in Newport, North Carolina, on March 18. A relative found him, leaving behind a stuffed animal, a handwritten letter, and a photograph, as per documents acquired by the press.
Blackledge’s demise was due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Medical examiner reports suggest that the young internet sensation had exhibited changes in his behavior, both socially and academically, in the months leading up to his death. No traces of drug use were discovered at the scene.
Blackledge, a junior at West Carteret High School in Morehead City, was actively involved in wrestling and track, according to his obituary. He was recognized for his love of outdoor activities, especially fishing and boating with friends, and his enthusiasm for cars and trucks. He was fond of assisting his mother with cooking, gardening, and yard work at home. His energetic spirit and entertaining personality, often demonstrated through his acrobatic skills, were well-known.
His TikTok account regularly showcased videos of his white BMW and, more recently, a new white truck. His girlfriend, Emmie Gillikin, was also a frequent presence on his account. The pair had marked their eight-month anniversary just days before his tragic death.
In the aftermath of Blackledge’s death, Gillikin posted a series of videos featuring the couple on social media. In a poignant post in March, she expressed her sorrow and disbelief, recalling Blackledge as someone who always managed to bring a smile to her face. The couple had first crossed paths over two years ago, and one of Blackledge’s most viewed videos was a montage of their shared moments, posted on their five-month anniversary.
Blackledge is survived by his parents and brother. In light of his death, it is crucial to remember that assistance is available for those grappling with suicidal thoughts or undergoing a mental health crisis.
