NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Country music star Chris Young was arrested on Monday night in Nashville, Tennessee, following a confrontation with law enforcement at a local bar. Court documents and jail information confirm that Young is facing charges of assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
The incident unfolded at a bar located near the renowned Country Music Hall of Fame and the city’s bustling Broadway nightlife area. According to arrest affidavits obtained from the Davidson County sheriff’s records, Young was accused of assaulting Joseph T Phillips, an agent with Tennessee’s Alcohol Beverage Commission.
Phillips alleged that Young began following the agents as they were conducting routine compliance checks at neighboring bars. The altercation started at Tin Roof, where Young had his ID checked and engaged in a conversation with the agents. He then proceeded to record the law enforcement officers on video, according to the affidavits.
Young and his friends reportedly followed the agents to DawgHouse, where the situation escalated. Phillips claimed that Young tried to prevent him from leaving the bar and proceeded to strike the agent on the shoulder. In response, Phillips pushed Young forcefully to create distance.
As the agents attempted to leave, multiple bar patrons intervened and created a hostile environment by yelling and screaming, added Phillips. Two agents struggled to take Young into custody while he displayed bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, eventually leading to his arrest just after 10 p.m. according to jail records. Young was released at 1:09 a.m. the following day after posting bond.
