Kevin Ware, a 44-year-old former NFL player, has admitted to the horrific murder of his girlfriend, Taylor Pomaski, who was 29 at the time of her death. Pomaski’s family reported her missing after she was last seen in April 2021, and her remains were discovered several months later. The court in Harris County, Texas, has handed down a 30-year prison sentence to Ware for the gruesome crime. The authorities have reported that Pomaski was subjected to a brutal attack that included beating, stabbing, strangulation, and burning.
In addition to admitting to the murder, Ware also pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence, as he had desecrated Pomaski’s body after her death. Court records indicate that Pomaski’s body was burned post-mortem. Pomaski was last seen on April 25, 2021, after attending a party. Ware quickly became a person of interest in her disappearance due to his lack of cooperation with investigators.
In December 2021, human remains were discovered in North Harris County, which were suspected to be Pomaski’s. Forensic testing in early May 2022 confirmed the identity of the deceased woman. Ware, who had been under suspicion for over a year, was formally charged with Pomaski’s murder in late July 2022. Interestingly, Ware had been arrested a month earlier for allegedly violating bond conditions related to weapon and drug charges, which he had incurred just days before Pomaski’s disappearance.
Witnesses reported that the couple had a violent argument at the party where Pomaski was last seen alive. Court records show that Ware admitted to killing her around April 28, 2021. Pomaski’s family reported her missing on May 11 of the same year when she failed to reach out to them on Mother’s Day, which also happened to be her father’s birthday.
Pomaski’s mother, Leslie Mandeville, expressed her shock and grief in a June 2021 report, stating that her daughter never missed such occasions. Eric Zuleger, Pomaski’s former boyfriend, also revealed that she had been planning to leave Ware and start a new life.
Ware, who had a brief two-season career in the NFL, played 16 games as a tight end for the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Commanders.
