Fatal Shooting at Flea Market

A fatal shooting in a Miami flea market parking lot has led to the arrest of a 69-year-old Florida man, Omar Rene Aguila. Aguila is facing charges of second-degree murder following the incident that took place on July 12 at the Northside Shopping Center.

The arrest affidavit, as reported by local media, reveals that the victim was allegedly involved in an affair with Aguila’s wife since 2019. Aguila reportedly discovered the affair in April 2024 and had been urging his wife to end the relationship. The situation escalated when the victim visited Aguila’s home two days before the shooting, leading to a confrontation between the two men.

On the day of the shooting, Aguila, his wife, and son were at the flea market when the victim arrived to deliver food to a friend. The victim attempted to engage in conversation with Aguila’s wife before departing. The affidavit states that Aguila approached the victim’s car, leading to an argument between the two men.

The situation quickly escalated when Aguila allegedly drew a firearm and shot the victim multiple times. The incident was reportedly captured on surveillance video. Emergency medical services transported the victim to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed to the public.

Following the shooting, Aguila was initially released by law enforcement after claiming self-defense and alleging that the victim had a firearm in his vehicle. However, subsequent investigations reportedly found that the victim was unarmed. Aguila, a convicted felon, is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm. As a result, Aguila is also facing charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Aguila was taken into custody on Thursday and is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
