A tragic event unfolded at a McDonald’s in northwest Harris County yesterday evening, leading to the death of a bystander. The victim, identified as 61-year-old Jorge Garcia, was caught in the crossfire during a dispute between two groups of young people. Garcia was later pronounced dead at a local hospital following the violent altercation at the fast-food restaurant located on North Fry Road near West Little York.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. A group of six to seven young individuals, both males and females, were confronted by another group of two to three young men. The confrontation quickly escalated into a physical fight, during which several shots were fired. The incident created a horrifying and chaotic scene for the other patrons, including children, who were present at the time.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described the incident as senseless and expressed his condolences to Garcia’s family. He emphasized the swift and chaotic nature of the event, a common characteristic of situations involving gunfire. The sheriff’s office is currently reviewing surveillance footage from various angles to piece together the sequence of events and identify the individuals responsible for the shooting.
In addition to Garcia, a 25-year-old man, reportedly involved in the altercation, also sustained injuries but is expected to recover. The rapid escalation of the incident resulted in all involved parties fleeing the scene before law enforcement could arrive.
Investigators have since identified one of the vehicles believed to be used by the suspects and have recognized several individuals who were involved in the fight. However, the shooters have not yet been identified. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
