Father, 17-Year-Old Twins Found Dead in Home

Orange County detectives believe the father killed his two teenage children before dying by suicide, while the investigation remains ongoing.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A father and his 17-year-old twins were found dead inside an Orange County home after deputies responded to a well-being check, with investigators saying they believe the father killed the teenagers before taking his own life.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office identified the twins as Carlo Montiel Infantino and Melanie Montiel Infantino, both 17, and their father as Ivan Montiel Roa. Deputies found the three family members Sept. 30 at a residence in the 1200 block of Courtney Chase Circle in the Hunter’s Creek area. Authorities have described the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide, but the investigation remains open and a motive has not been released.

Deputies went to the home for a well-being check and entered the residence, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Carlo and Melanie were found dead in the living room. Investigators said both teenagers had suffered multiple stab wounds. Montiel Roa was found dead in a bathroom elsewhere in the residence.

Detectives said their investigation so far indicates Montiel Roa killed his two children and then died by suicide. Authorities have not publicly released additional details about his death. Officials also have not said exactly when the three family members died or released a detailed timeline of the events leading to their deaths.

The Sheriff’s Office has not publicly identified a motive. Investigators also have not said what information prompted the well-being check or who requested it. The agency has released only limited information about what deputies found when they entered the home and has not announced findings that would explain what led to the killings.

Orange County Public Schools said administrators were notified of the deaths of two students. The district said grief counselors were available to support students and staff following the deaths. The district did not provide additional details about the teenagers in its initial public statement.

State Rep. Rita Harris, who represents part of the Orlando area and lives near where the deaths occurred, told WESH that the loss was devastating, particularly because of the victims’ ages. Her comments came as residents and members of the school community learned more about the deaths.

Authorities have not announced that another person is suspected of involvement in the case. The Sheriff’s Office has characterized its conclusion about Montiel Roa’s role as detectives’ current belief based on the investigation, rather than as a final finding in a completed case.

Some published reports have described circumstances involving the family before the deaths, but investigators have not publicly connected those reports to a motive. The Sheriff’s Office has not released evidence establishing why the teenagers were killed, and no detailed account of what happened before deputies arrived has been made public.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office continued investigating the three deaths as of Saturday. Authorities had not released a confirmed motive, a complete timeline or additional findings about the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
