Father and Son Killed During Bank Robbery, Police Standoff

A tragic conclusion befell a father-son pair, 56-year-old Shaun Fallon and 27-year-old Zachary Fallon of Charleston, Rhode Island, following their involvement in a bank robbery in Connecticut. The duo, donning masks, allegedly threatened a bank teller at Chelsea Groton Bank in Groton, Connecticut, and absconded with an undisclosed amount of money. The incident took place around 10:30 a.m. on a recent Thursday, according to police records.

Law enforcement authorities were able to locate the suspects’ escape vehicle at a nearby Super 8 Motel roughly six hours after the robbery. This discovery led to a tense standoff, during which the father and son claimed to be armed with guns and explosives, and refused to surrender.

As the standoff entered its sixth hour, two gunshots echoed from the suspects’ motel room. Police drones confirmed that both suspects had been incapacitated by what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

In the aftermath, a bomb squad was summoned to ensure the room was safe for entry, following the evacuation of the motel’s other guests. Despite the suspects’ claims, no explosives were discovered in the room. The police have yet to disclose details about the weapons the pair allegedly had in their possession.

Both father and son were rushed to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Zachary Fallon was declared dead a few hours later. Shaun Fallon, who was hospitalized for several days, eventually succumbed to his injuries on the following Monday, as per police reports. The official cause of death for both individuals is yet to be determined by the medical examiner’s office.

Groton Police Chief L.J. Fusaro praised the courage and professionalism of all law enforcement personnel involved in the situation. He characterized the incident as “extremely dangerous and volatile.” The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
