BALTIMORE, MD— A father in Baltimore is facing charges in connection with the fatal shooting of his 2-year-old daughter. Christopher Gamble, 28, was charged on Wednesday with first- and second-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, and related gun charges. The incident occurred on December 17, 2023, in the Northwest District, according to the Baltimore Police.
Authorities revealed that their investigation determined Gamble to be responsible for the shooting death of his daughter in their residence on Park Heights Avenue. The young girl was rushed to Sinai Hospital on Sunday evening with a gunshot wound to her head but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
According to a criminal complaint, Gamble admitted to homicide detectives that he had purchased an unregistered firearm, which he had left on the TV stand in his bedroom. The complaint further revealed conflicting statements from Gamble regarding the incident, initially suggesting that his daughter had shot herself but later admitting that he was present in the bedroom when the tragedy occurred, as reported by The Baltimore Sun.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott expressed his condolences and outrage at the heartbreaking incident, emphasizing the need for accountability. “There is nothing more tragic in the world than the loss of a life of a child, especially that young,” he stated. Scott called for a thorough examination of the adults surrounding the child, questioning how such an event could occur in a place supposedly filled with love and protection.
Gamble is currently in custody at Central Booking, held without bail according to court records. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
