Father Fatally Shot at Family Gathering

OXNARD, Calif. – Authorities in Oxnard, California, are investigating the tragic shooting death of a 34-year-old man during a New Year’s Eve party. The victim, identified as Jose Juarez, was fatally struck by gunfire near his home while checking on his two children. His wife, Cassandra Juarez, revealed that he had gone to check on their two children who had chosen to stay back from the party and play video games.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:10 a.m. on New Year’s Day on the 2100 block of Sierra Way. Jose Juarez sustained a single gunshot wound and was subsequently pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Oxnard police have not made any arrests and are working with limited information.

Sergeant Jess Aragon of the Oxnard Police Department stated, “The victim was crossing the street leaving a residence when he was shot in the roadway.” Although neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots around midnight, it is yet to be determined whether the shooting was accidental or if Jose Juarez was specifically targeted.

Cassandra Juarez emphasized that her husband was not involved in any gang-related activities and was a devoted family man. In a heartbreaking statement, she shared that their children are unaware of the details surrounding their father’s death, believing that he is asleep in the hospital and will soon return home.

The Oxnard Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation. They are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Adam Aguilar at 805-385-7680. The City of Oxnard is also offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.

In the wake of this tragedy, the community can support the Juarez family through a GoFundMe page set up by Cassandra Juarez. The funds raised will aid the family as they navigate the loss of their beloved father and husband.
