In a tragic incident, a Florida-based hairstylist was brutally murdered in a high-end apartment complex’s parking garage. The assailant, armed with a knife, later confessed to the police about his heinous act. The victim, Hailey Hosford, was attacked in the early hours of May 28, as she was getting out of a rental car at the Retreat at Sawgrass Village in Sunrise, Florida.
Hosford, 27, tried to evade the attacker, identified as Jackson Sagesse, by jumping back into the car. However, the hefty assailant allegedly forced open the door and attacked her, as per the arrest affidavit. The security camera footage from the scene showed Sagesse making repeated stabbing motions into the vehicle.
Following the attack, Sagesse was confronted by a male friend of Hosford’s who had just returned from his apartment. A violent altercation ensued between the two men, resulting in Sagesse stabbing the unidentified man in the throat. Despite his injuries, the man managed to escape and alert the police.
Sagesse, failing to drive away in the car, was seen searching the area before leaving the garage. When the police arrived, they found an unresponsive Hosford inside the car, with multiple stab wounds to her neck and throat. She was pronounced dead at 2:01 a.m. Hosford’s friend survived the attack, albeit with a puncture wound to his throat.
Hosford was a well-known figure in her community, owning a beauty salon in Fort Lauderdale and serving as a teacher and ambassador for a yoga and retreat company. Her friends remember her as a strong and determined individual. Aubrey Rosebrock, a close friend of Hosford, shared her last message to him, a testament to her positive and loving nature.
The police were able to identify Sagesse from the surveillance footage, thanks to the staff at the Retreat. He was arrested at his home, which he shared with his mother, wearing the same clothes as seen in the video. Detectives found blood on the rear door of his apartment and two missing knives from the kitchen, matching the description of the murder weapon.
Following his arrest, Sagesse confessed to the stabbings. He claimed that he was on his way to the gym when he noticed the car in the parking garage. He alleged that he went back to his apartment to get a kitchen knife for personal protection, intending to call 911 about the vehicle but didn’t have his phone. Sagesse claimed he was acting in self-defense, although he failed to specify any threat. He has been charged with premeditated murder and attempted first-degree murder and is currently held without bond at the Broward County Jail.
