Heroic Deacon Fatally Shot Protecting People at Church Easter Egg Hunt

A Mississippi deacon is being recognized for his heroic actions after he was fatally shot while protecting his congregation during an Easter egg hunt. Eddie Shed, a 39-year-old father and deacon at the Empowerment Ministries Christian Center in Gulfport, lost his life on Saturday afternoon. The tragic incident unfolded when Tyran Deion Gable, 24, allegedly opened fire following a disagreement over child custody, as reported by the Gulfport Police Department.

Shed sacrificed his life to shield two individuals who had attempted to mediate the custody dispute. Alexis Weathersby, a fellow church member, remembered Shed as a guardian, a compassionate individual, and a vigilant protector for all. She spoke highly of him, describing him as an extraordinary man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Shed was declared dead at the scene of the incident. Another victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was airlifted to a hospital in a different state. Gable, who was also wounded in the shooting, was taken to a local hospital where he was later arrested and charged with murder.

Pastor Gregg Magee of the Empowerment Ministries Christian Center lauded Shed’s heroic actions, stating that he exemplified the characteristics of a true hero. He emphasized that Shed’s selfless courage may have prevented further harm to others. The pastor expressed profound grief over the tragic loss, characterizing Shed as a stalwart of strength within their community and a beacon of light and hope. His unwavering faith, benevolence, and commitment to service have left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

What began as a day of joyous celebration was tainted by a criminal act, leaving the community devastated by the senseless violence. In the wake of the shooting, three individuals, including Gable, were apprehended, according to local reports.
