BROOKLYN, NY – A woman has been taken into custody in Brooklyn after a disturbing find inside a taped-up freezer at an apartment. Heather Stines, 45, was detained following the discovery of a man’s severed head and other body parts. The gruesome scene was uncovered on Monday morning after law enforcement acted on a tip about a potential body “stored” in the residence. Authorities are currently working to identify the victim and determine the cause of death.
According to the New York Police Department Chief of Detectives, Joseph Kenny, officers stumbled upon the body parts during their investigation. “At this point, we’re trying to identify that person,” said Kenny. “We have a head. We have some limbs. As of right now, it seems like we have the whole body.” The refrigerator was carefully sealed to prevent any odor from escaping.
The suspect’s 79-year-old aunt, Amy Stines, expressed disbelief over the situation. She revealed that her niece had struggled with drug problems and had moved away from Kentucky to escape them. Heather Stines currently resides in a Brooklyn apartment with her husband, working as a cleaner for a living. Amy Stines had tried reaching out to her niece the day before the disturbing discovery but received no response.
Heather Stines’ husband, Nicholas McGee, is currently in a Virginia jail facing unrelated charges. Catherine McGee, his sister-in-law, disclosed that both Stines and McGee have a history of drug abuse, including heroin and crack. They have been frequently arrested in the past. McGee is set to appear in court in response to his charges, while Stines remains in the hospital due to reported illness.
As of now, investigators have been unable to interview Stines since she is still receiving medical attention. No charges have been filed against her at this time.
