Indiana Father Arrested for Fatally Shooting Wife in Front of Children

Indianapolis, Indiana – A 45-year-old father has been arrested in Indiana after allegedly shooting his 40-year-old wife seven times in front of their two young children during an argument. Mohammed Mondal was taken into custody on Monday and is facing charges of murder, neglect of a dependent, and using a firearm in the commission of an offense resulting in serious bodily injury or death.

The fatal shooting occurred in the couple’s vehicle while they were on their way to a photo appointment at J.C. Penny. The argument escalated, leading Mohammed Mondal to call 911 and report that he had shot his wife. Deputies caught up with the vehicle near the Ohio-Indiana border and followed it to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, where the wife was pronounced dead.

In a probable cause affidavit, Mohammed Mondal initially claimed that the shooting was accidental but later stated that he shot his wife in self-defense. He alleged that his wife had struck him with her cell phone and then reached for a gun in the center console. However, investigators found no evidence to support his claims of his wife’s infidelity or that she had fired a single shot during the argument.

Stacy Mondal’s family released a statement expressing their grief and emphasizing their focus on supporting the couple’s children. They described Stacy as a dedicated mother to her five children and thanked the community for their compassion and support.

Mohammed Mondal is currently being held at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center and made his initial court appearance on Thursday.
