A Texas couple, Destiny Campos, 21, and Jeremy Fancher, 38, are facing murder charges following the death of their 4-month-old daughter, Brookelynn Fancher. The infant was discovered lifeless in a hotel drawer, where she was allegedly placed to sleep due to her loud cries. The parents reportedly used a towel to secure the drawer’s edges to prevent the baby from kicking it open.
The incident occurred at a Days Inn & Suites in the Mission Bend area of Harris County. Emergency services were called to the scene on May 26, 2024, but were unable to revive the unresponsive infant. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the baby was found in a drawer in the parents’ room.
The criminal complaint reveals that a housekeeper had previously found the child in the drawer on multiple occasions. The parents allegedly dismissed the housekeeper’s concerns with laughter. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described the details of the case as “horrific” following the parents’ arrest.
Paramedics arrived at the scene around 1 p.m. on the day of the incident but were unable to revive Brookelynn. During the investigation, Campos and Fancher revealed that they would place Brookelynn in the drawer while they slept or were occupied with other activities. Fancher allegedly complained about the baby’s cries being too loud and would feed her to quiet her down.
On a previous occasion, the housekeeper found Brookelynn in the drawer while Campos was unconscious in the room and could not be awakened. Campos’ 18-month-old daughter was also present in the room at the time. The housekeeper recalled finding the baby crying in the closed drawer while the older child was on the floor eating cookie crumbs.
Campos reportedly told the police that she had asked Fancher to watch Brookelynn on the day of her death while she slept. She denied placing the baby in the drawer. Fancher allegedly admitted that the baby was in the drawer, which was completely shut when he arrived. He claimed that he had left the drawer slightly open when he went to a local store.
Upon his return, Fancher found Brookelynn lying sideways and not breathing. He immediately removed her from the drawer, placed her on the bed, and performed CPR. Fancher admitted to being the last person to place the baby in the drawer.
Following the child’s death, Campos’ grandmother informed authorities that Campos claimed to be pregnant again with a girl. She had reportedly made disturbing comments in the months following the incident, suggesting that the new baby would replace the one she lost.
Campos was arrested and charged with murder on a Friday, while Fancher was arrested the following day. Sheriff Gonzalez commended his team for their relentless pursuit of justice for the infant.
