Infant Found Dead With Eggshells and Feathers in His Stomach

A 26-year-old Florida woman, Natalia Munoz-Paulino, is currently in custody after her 9-month-old son ingested lethal amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine, leading to his tragic death. Munoz-Paulino is facing charges of second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

On July 2, 2024, Miami-Dade Police Department detectives were called to a local hospital where the infant boy was declared dead. Following this, the investigators visited Munoz-Paulino’s residence located on SW 147th Avenue. The apartment was found in a state of disarray, with old food, trash, used hygiene products, and clothing strewn across the floor.

At the scene, the police had to intervene to stop the deceased boy’s older sibling from consuming contents from a baby oil bottle. Munoz-Paulino initially told the police that she had fallen asleep while holding her son and woke up to find him unresponsive and discolored. However, her account of the incident varied in subsequent interactions with investigators and family members, with claims ranging from the child falling and hitting his head, to drowning, and choking.

Munoz-Paulino also informed detectives that her son had a habit of putting foreign objects in his mouth. An autopsy revealed the presence of eggshells and feathers in the child’s stomach. However, the cause of death was determined to be lethal ingestion of cocaine and methamphetamine, and the manner of death was ruled as homicide by child neglect.

Munoz-Paulino was arrested on the following Monday. After being read her rights, she confessed to using drugs during a party at her apartment on the weekend of her son’s death. The child’s father, who resides out of state, corroborated this, stating that he had previously witnessed Munoz-Paulino using meth at the apartment.

Currently, Munoz-Paulino is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without the possibility of bail. She has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges against her.
