Lake of Death Claims Third Victim

A tragic incident unfolded at a popular fishing spot in New Jersey, Penbryn Lake in Winslow, when a 27-year-old man drowned. The lake, located approximately 35 minutes east of Atlantic City, is a well-known destination for anglers. Local authorities in Camden County confirmed the recovery of the man’s body.

The unfortunate event occurred on Thursday when the man disappeared under the water. His body was retrieved an hour later, according to police reports. Despite its popularity, swimming is strictly prohibited in the lake as it is designated as protected state land.

The official cause of death is yet to be determined and will be confirmed following an autopsy. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed by the police, although his family has been notified.

This is not the first time Penbryn Lake has been the site of a drowning. Last summer, two individuals, aged 23 and 24, also lost their lives in the lake. The incident occurred on August 5, 2024, when the two swimmers vanished at around 2:45 p.m. One of the victims was later identified by family members as Fernando Iglesias.

The search for the victims last summer involved a comprehensive effort from authorities. Divers scoured the lake while ground teams, accompanied by K-9 units, searched the surrounding woods for any signs of the missing individuals. The search lasted for over two hours.

Despite these tragic incidents, Penbryn Lake continues to draw anglers due to its reputation as a prime fishing spot. However, these events serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of swimming in prohibited areas, particularly those designated as protected lands.
