Renowned Surgeon and Fox News Commentator Dr. Kelly Powers Dies at 45

Dr. Kelly Powers, a renowned podiatric surgeon and Fox News commentator, has passed away following a prolonged battle with cancer at the age of 45. Powers was initially diagnosed with brain cancer in 2020 after experiencing a series of health issues. She successfully fought the disease into remission, but it tragically resurfaced this year.

Powers was a familiar face on Fox News, regularly appearing on the talk show Red Eye. She also contributed to Fox Business, leading discussions on health risks that Americans face. However, her journalistic endeavors were secondary to her true calling in medicine.

Educated at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, Powers completed her residency at Georgetown and the Boston University School of Medicine. She was a successful podiatric surgeon, dedicated to her profession and her patients. An obituary for Powers described her as a “brave and beautiful soul” who had a deep love for people and a commitment to helping others.

In a twist of fate, Powers became a patient herself while hosting a Fox News segment on heart health. She experienced shortness of breath and chest pains live on air. Despite undergoing three surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, Powers managed to fight off the cancer. During this time, she also became pregnant and gave birth to a son, Bennett.

In an interview with Preferred Health Magazine after her first diagnosis, Powers recounted her experience, saying, “It’s crazy – I went into heart failure while doing a report on Fox Business – live – on heart health and talking about the subtle signs that women often miss. You can’t make this up.” She later faced a diagnosis of the aggressive brain cancer glioblastoma.

Powers humorously referred to herself as “the luckiest unlucky girl” after overcoming her illnesses. She often joked about how her treatment gave her and her infant son, Bennett, matching haircuts. When her cancer returned in 2024, her friends raised nearly $100,000 to fund an experimental treatment that her insurance wouldn’t cover.

Powers is survived by her three-year-old son, Bennett, and her husband, Steve.

McDonald’s Employees Face Assault Charges After Drive-Thru Dispute

Three employees of a McDonald’s restaurant in northern Columbus are facing assault charges following a dispute over a drive-thru order that escalated into a violent confrontation. The incident, which took place on October 17, resulted in a customer suffering a broken facial bone.

The altercation began when a customer, unhappy with his order, asked for a correction. This request sparked a disagreement with an employee named Cedric Love. Another employee, Torshawn Williams, filled a cup from the drink fountain and, together with Love and a third employee, Cornelious Goodrich, went outside. Surveillance footage captured parts of the ensuing confrontation as the customer remained at the pickup window.

Williams is accused of throwing the cup through the open driver’s side window, prompting the customer to exit his van. The three employees are then alleged to have started assaulting the customer, resulting in a broken orbital bone around his left eye that required surgical treatment.

Goodrich, who has a previous conviction for voluntary manslaughter from 2004 and served 12 years in prison, appeared in court and was issued a $30,000 bond on Wednesday. Williams, meanwhile, received a $50,000 bond and a temporary restraining order on Thursday. Both are scheduled to return to court on November 22.

An arrest warrant was issued for Love on November 6, but he remains at large. The incident has sparked concerns about customer safety and employee conduct in fast-food establishments.
