Man Admits to Wife’s Murder, Living with Body

A Texas man, Charles Byrd, 49, has been apprehended by authorities after confessing to the murder of his wife and living with her decomposing body for a month in their shared residence. The arrest came after an unidentified family member alerted the police, triggering a day-long manhunt that ended with Byrd’s capture.

Byrd’s wife, Angela Byrd, 44, was found deceased in their home, her body concealed in plastic. The shocking revelation was made by Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar during a press briefing on Sunday. According to Salazar, Byrd had been living with his wife’s decomposing body for over a month.

In a surprising twist, Byrd, who had no prior criminal record, confessed to the crime, telling investigators that he decided to “go big or go home” for his first offense. This statement, Salazar noted, was particularly shocking.

Following his arrest at an unoccupied residence a mile away from the crime scene, Byrd made a similar confession to a reporter. He expressed remorse for his actions, attributing them to a “mental break” and expressing his love for his deceased wife.

Byrd was cooperative with law enforcement, providing details of the violent attack on his wife that took place on June 16. He also reportedly admitted to investigators that he was aware his wife’s body would eventually be discovered.

Currently, Byrd is facing charges of tampering with evidence with the intent to impair a human corpse. Additional charges of murder are pending as the cause of Angela’s death is yet to be determined by authorities. As he awaits a mental health evaluation, Byrd remains in custody at the Bexar County Jail.
