Man Beats Co-Worker to Death with Bat

Police in Arizona reported that Derrick Lemond Simmons, 50, has been arrested after brutally attacking a coworker with a baseball bat, knife, and hatchet in the cafeteria of Intel’s Ocotillo campus.

After Officers arrived at the scene, officers found one person dead from blunt force trauma injuries and another injured after confronting Simmons.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene of the reported attack, they encountered Simmons in front of the building. He was holding a bag where officers found weapons.

According to the probable cause statement, Simmons then informed the officers that he thought they were looking for him and willingly gave himself up.

Simmons has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault and is held on a $1 million cash bond. He has a previous felony conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed.

The Intel Octotillo Campus is about 25 miles from Phoenix. In 2021, Intel broke ground on a $20 billion project in Arizona that is said to be the largest private-sector investment in the state’s history.
