In a tragic incident in St. Paul, Minnesota, 34-year-old Joseph Davis has been charged with second-degree murder following the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend, 33-year-old Christine Morris. The incident occurred at their shared residence, where police discovered Morris’ body after conducting a welfare check early Friday morning. The welfare check was prompted by a call Davis made to a family member, confessing to the murder and expressing remorse.
Upon arrival, police found the couple’s 2-year-old daughter unharmed in the living room, while Morris’ body, covered with a blanket and bearing multiple stab wounds, was located in an upstairs bedroom. The injuries were severe, affecting her lung, kidney, and spleen.
Investigations revealed that Morris had previously informed friends of her fears regarding Davis, indicating that he should be considered responsible if anything fatal happened to her or their daughter. This was not Davis’ first encounter with law enforcement, as he had been arrested at least three times before for domestic violence incidents involving Morris. Additionally, an ex-girlfriend of Davis had a restraining order against him due to fears for her safety.
The night before the murder, Morris had been out with a friend and texted the friend upon returning home safely around 11 p.m. After her death, police recovered her phone in a nearby park and began searching for Davis, who was eventually located in Minneapolis with the help of a SWAT team.
During interrogation, after being read his Miranda rights, Davis admitted to the killing, attributing his actions to a culmination of five years of alleged cheating, manipulation, and deceit by Morris. He claimed to have evidence of her infidelity recorded in their home. Davis described the murder as unplanned and expressed regret over the brutality of his actions.
