Man Killed by Booby Trap at Family Member’s Home

A tragic incident unfolded in Saint Matthews, South Carolina, when a man was fatally wounded by a shotgun booby trap allegedly set up by a family member. The victim, 34-year-old Jordan Dove, had visited the vacant home of his uncle, who is currently incarcerated. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office reported that Dove was transported to a local hospital following the incident but later succumbed to his injuries.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies from the sheriff’s office suspected that the residence might have been rigged with traps. A cautious approach was adopted, with a perimeter established around the property. Upon entering the home, they discovered a shotgun rigged to discharge when the back door was opened. A thorough search of the premises revealed that the front door had been barricaded shut, with no other individuals present inside the house.

The authorities are now seeking to press murder charges against Alfonzo Brown, the owner of the house and Dove’s uncle. Brown is currently serving time in a Maryland prison for a separate, nonfatal shooting incident that occurred in January. In addition to the murder charges, the authorities are also considering charging Brown with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers indicated that additional charges may also be forthcoming.

The sheriff’s department suspects that the booby trap was intended to harm law enforcement officers, although it remains unclear when the trap was set up. Sheriff Summers expressed his concern over the incident, highlighting the daily dangers faced by law enforcement officers.

The sheriff’s office concluded their investigation last Thursday, stating that there was no additional information to share at this time. However, they assured the public that there is no ongoing threat related to this incident.
