A Michigan resident is facing severe legal consequences, including a murder charge, for allegedly killing his mother using a broken broomstick. The gruesome discovery was made by the suspect’s brother, who found their mother with a piece of the broomstick lodged in her eye. This led to a violent altercation between the two brothers, according to law enforcement officials.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido expressed his deep concern over the allegations, stating that such acts of violence are intolerable. He assured that justice would be pursued to the fullest extent of the law.
The accused, Armando Streeter, a 46-year-old man from St. Clair Shores, was arraigned on Tuesday. He faces charges of second-degree murder and assault with intent to murder, both of which carry the potential for a life sentence, as per the prosecutor’s office.
Reports from the Macomb Daily newspaper suggest that Streeter has a history of alleged mental health issues. He was previously arrested for a domestic assault on his mother, Loretta Streeter, 76, in November 2024. Charges were filed in December for that incident, but the case was dismissed for reasons that remain unclear.
Prosecutors requested that Streeter be held without bond on Tuesday, citing him as a significant risk to society and his brother, William Streeter. William was also attacked by Armando on Saturday, April 5, at their shared residence on 11 Mile Road near Harper Avenue, as reported by the Macomb Daily.
Detective Sgt. Brad Benac of the St. Clair Shores Police Department recounted in court how William Streeter alerted authorities after discovering their mother with the broomstick lodged in her eye. Loretta was already deceased by the time of discovery. Security footage and audio recordings indicate a struggle and noise earlier in the day in the bedroom where she was found.
According to Benac, a female voice, presumably Loretta’s, can be heard pleading for help. He also told the court that Armando Streeter attacked his brother William with a lock attached to a rubber band while William was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher.
Law enforcement officials allege that Armando attempted to strangle William, leading to the additional charge of attempted murder. Streeter was arraigned in the 40th St. Clair Shores District Court, where District Court Judge Craigen Oster denied bond and remanded him to custody. A Probable Cause Conference for Streeter is scheduled for April 15, 2025.
