A Wisconsin man, aged 32, has been arrested and charged with the murder of his younger sister, as well as the attempted murder of his parents. Gerardo Jimenez-Rico reportedly turned himself in to the police, confessing to the crimes and citing years of alleged bullying by his 22-year-old sister, Jocelyn Jimenez, as the motive.
The incident occurred last week, with Jimenez-Rico being charged with first-degree intentional homicide for his sister’s death. He is also facing two counts of first-degree attempted homicide for the shooting of his parents, both of whom survived the attack. The charges against Jimenez-Rico include two modifiers, one for domestic abuse involving physical harm, and the other for the use of a dangerous weapon.
The Milwaukee Police Department responded to a shooting report around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Upon arrival at the scene, they found three adults with gunshot wounds. Jocelyn Jimenez was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured woman, identified as Jimenez-Rico’s mother, informed the officers that her son was the shooter.
Before the police could initiate a search for Jimenez-Rico, he reportedly walked into the District One Milwaukee Police station, confessing to the shooting. In a subsequent interview, Jimenez-Rico revealed that his family had just returned from a month-long trip to Mexico. He stated that he was unemployed and financially unstable, which is why he did not join them on the trip.
Jimenez-Rico further explained that he felt bullied by his family due to his unemployment. He recounted an incident prior to the shooting where his father and sister criticized him for leaving dirty dishes in the sink and hinted at him needing to find another place to live. According to the complaint, Jimenez-Rico claimed that he was tired of the bullying, which had been ongoing for several years.
The complaint also states that Jimenez-Rico shot his sister after she picked up a knife in response to him shooting their father. He also shot his mother, although he told detectives that he did not intend to and could not explain why he did.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Jocelyn Jimenez’s 4-year-old daughter and her parents. The page describes the incident as an “unimaginable turn of events” and states that the family, including Jocelyn’s fiance, older sister, and young daughter, are dealing with “unbearable grief.”
