Manuel Jesus Huchin-Interian, an Oregon resident, has pleaded guilty to second-degree assault constituting domestic violence and is currently awaiting his sentence. The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the plea, which was entered on April 18. The assault in question occurred in 2021 and was witnessed by the couple’s 10-year-old daughter.
The incident took place in the family’s home in Gresham, a city located in the eastern part of the greater Portland area. Huchin-Interian attacked his children’s mother and threatened to harm her and their children. The couple’s daughter, who was present during the assault, attempted to protect herself and her mother before securing herself and her siblings in another room. Huchin-Interian subsequently fled Oregon and was apprehended in San Francisco in March 2024.
Despite Huchin-Interian’s threats to harm her and their children, the woman survived a severe knife wound to her neck. The assault was reported to the authorities by several neighbors, including the couple’s daughter, who informed the police that her parents were arguing and her father had stabbed her mother. The young girl attempted to defend her mother by stabbing her father, but the knife was too blunt. She then secured her younger siblings in a separate room and locked the door.
The girl remained on the phone with 911 dispatchers until her father had left the premises. She then emerged from the room to assist her mother, who was discovered by the police in a critical condition, lying in a pool of her own blood. Despite the severity of her injuries, the woman survived the attack.
Upon questioning by the police, the woman revealed that Huchin-Interian had accused her of infidelity before assaulting her. He had threatened to harm her and their children during the attack. Multnomah County Senior Deputy District Attorney Robin Beck Skarstad commended the couple’s daughter for her bravery and resilience in the face of such a traumatic event.
Huchin-Interian is expected to receive a sentence of 70 months in prison, followed by three years of post-prison supervision.
