Former Indiana math teacher, Brittany Fortinberry, 31, is facing an increased number of charges related to the sexual abuse of minors. The additional charges have been brought forward after another minor stepped forward, raising the total number of juvenile accusers to six, as reported by law enforcement officials.
Prosecutors are preparing to add 24 more felony charges to the existing five, totaling 29 charges against Fortinberry. These charges are set to be presented at a court hearing scheduled for April 3. The charges encompass five counts of level-one child molestation, sexual misconduct with a minor, dissemination of matter harmful to minors, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Morgan County Prosecutor, Steven Sonnega, has indicated that if Fortinberry is convicted of the child molestation charges alone, she could face a prison sentence of 20-40 years for each count. If the sentences are ordered to run consecutively, Fortinberry could potentially spend the rest of her life in prison.
In addition to the molestation charges, there are 24 other counts of varying level offenses, each carrying maximum sentences between two and 12 years, according to the prosecutor. Fortinberry is alleged to have met her accusers, some as young as 13, at two different schools in Morgan County in 2024.
One of the accusers has claimed that Fortinberry spent $600 on him and a group of boys, and then engaged in sexual activities with them while they wore masks from the horror movie “Scream”. The police have also alleged that Fortinberry would invite the teenagers to her house, provide them with drugs, and engage in sexual activities with them after her own children were put to bed.
Prosecutors also allege that Fortinberry threatened to commit suicide if her victims revealed the abuse. She is said to have offered the boys between $100 and $800 for explicit photos and regularly sent them explicit photos of herself. If the boys refused her advances, she would allegedly force herself on them.
Last month, Fortinberry was accused of sexually abusing several students. She attributed her actions to her significant weight loss of 150 pounds.
