Mass Shooting Leaves One Dead, Six Injured at University Homecoming Event

A tragic incident unfolded at Pennsylvania’s Lincoln University during a homecoming event on Saturday night, leaving one person dead and six others injured. The violent episode, which involved a shooting, occurred around 9 p.m. during a tailgate and yardfest event near the football field of the historically black university in Chester County, situated about 50 miles west of Philadelphia.

According to the Oxford Borough Police Department, four of the victims sustained gunshot injuries and were promptly taken to Christiana Hospital in various states of health. The Chester County District Attorney, Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe, confirmed that a suspect linked to the incident has been taken into custody.

Authorities have reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the university community. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who has been updated on the situation, has pledged his full support to Lincoln University President Brenda Allen and local law enforcement agencies. He has also advised the public to steer clear of the area and heed the instructions of local law enforcement.

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office acknowledged the incident in a social media post, stating that they were aware of a shooting with multiple victims at Lincoln University. They confirmed that law enforcement had responded to the scene and were actively investigating. They also urged the public to avoid the area until further notice.

In response to the incident, Lincoln University announced via social media that counseling services would be available for students and staff starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Prior to the shooting, the university had been sharing videos of the homecoming celebrations throughout the day.

Chester County Commissioner Eric Roe expressed his condolences on social media, asking for prayers for the students and faculty of Lincoln University, as well as the law enforcement officers responding to the incident. He confirmed that a mass shooting had taken place at the university.
