Police said two boys were among the victims and all injuries were not life-threatening.
HANOVER, Md. — Six people, including two boys, were wounded June 20 after gunfire broke out during an early morning disturbance on Charwood Road in Hanover, Anne Arundel County police said.
The shooting drew a large police response before dawn in a community near Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Police said officers first found one wounded man at the scene, then learned from three area hospitals that five more people had arrived with gunshot wounds. No arrests had been announced as detectives continued interviews.
Officers were called at about 4:40 a.m. to the 1300 block of Charwood Road for what police described as an unknown disturbance. When patrol officers arrived, they found a large crowd dispersing and an adult man with a gunshot wound to his torso. Emergency medical crews took him to a local hospital. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening. As detectives began sorting through the scene, the case widened. Hospitals later notified police that more shooting victims had walked in for treatment. Police said detectives were interviewing the victims “to determine what occurred during this event.”
The additional victims included an adult woman with a gunshot wound to an extremity, two boys with lower-body injuries, another adult man with lower-body injuries and another adult woman with lower-body injuries, police said. Authorities did not release the victims’ names or ages. Police also did not say whether the victims knew one another, whether they were in the same place when shots were fired or whether any person had been targeted. Investigators had not publicly identified a suspect or motive by the latest update. Police said all six victims were expected to survive.
The shooting happened in a section of Hanover that includes industrial sites, businesses and roads leading toward BWI Marshall Airport. Hanover sits in northern Anne Arundel County, between Baltimore and Washington, and includes residential areas, warehouses, hotels and commercial corridors. The early hour and the movement of people from the scene to hospitals added difficulty for investigators. Police had to account for people who left before officers arrived and for victims who sought care on their own instead of remaining at the scene.
Detectives were expected to review witness statements, hospital reports and any physical evidence collected from Charwood Road. Police had not announced whether shell casings, video footage or other evidence had been recovered. No charges had been filed. The case remained active as investigators worked to build a timeline, identify who fired shots and determine what led to the disturbance. Police said more information would be released after detectives complete key parts of the investigation.
By Saturday evening, the main facts remained limited. Four adults and two boys had been shot. One victim was found by officers at the scene. Five others arrived at hospitals later that morning. All had injuries described as not life-threatening. Police said the investigation was continuing and that victim interviews were central to learning how the violence unfolded.
The next major step is a public update from Anne Arundel County police once detectives confirm more details about the shooting, possible suspects and the events that led to the gunfire.
