Mass Shooting Suspect Arrested in Nudieland Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – A 17-year-old has been placed in juvenile detention as a second suspect in the mass shooting that occurred at a punk show in Minneapolis last summer. The incident, which left one person dead and several others injured, has raised concerns about targeted violence against LGBTQ+ individuals.

A second suspect, a 17-year-old from Onamia, has been charged with multiple felonies in relation to the shooting at Nudieland, a DIY punk venue. The event, intended as a gathering for the community, tragically resulted in the death of 35-year-old August Golden.

According to witnesses, the shooting appeared to be motivated by bias, with derogatory language targeting the sexual orientation of attendees. However, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has not labeled the crime as bias-motivated at this point.

The case has prompted reflection on the vulnerability of marginalized groups within the Minneapolis DIY punk scene. The investigation into the shooting continues, exploring the possibility of bias as a motive.

During the court hearing, the minor defendant sought permission to be present for the birth of his child, but the request was denied due to the gravity of the case. Both suspects will remain in juvenile detention as the legal process unfolds.

The Minneapolis punk community, still reeling from the tragic events at Nudieland, hopes for justice and an end to violence against LGBTQ+ individuals.
