In a tragic incident, a 55-year-old grandmother, Wa Siti, was found dead in Indonesia, her body discovered inside the mouth of a 23-foot python. Siti had been tending to her garden when she mysteriously disappeared, leaving behind her basket, a constant companion during her gardening activities.
Siti’s son, Saimin, alarmed by the abandoned basket, rallied family members to search for his mother. Saimin had always been concerned about his mother’s safety while working on the farm, especially due to the presence of large snakes. Despite his worries, Siti, who had been farming since her childhood, was unafraid and always carried her basket with her.
The search took a horrifying turn when another of Siti’s sons, La Faru, discovered a massive python with his mother’s upper body lodged in its gullet. The snake had swallowed Siti’s head, her face covered in a thick layer of slime when rescuers finally managed to extract her from the python’s grip. By then, it was too late, and Siti was pronounced dead, as confirmed by Indonesian Police Inspector One Hardi.
This incident is not an isolated one. In October 2022, another grandmother met a similar tragic end. Jahrah, 54, did not return home after a day of work at a plantation. The next day, her husband discovered that a 22-foot python had swallowed her whole.
Pythons, along with other large reptiles, are common in Southeast Asia. However, the development of modern infrastructure has pushed these creatures away from densely populated areas. In Indonesia, these reptiles can roam freely through villages, leading to an increased risk of attacks on humans.
