Missing Woman Found After Dramatic Subway Birth

Jenny Saint Pierre, a 25-year-old woman from Florida who had been reported missing since August 2024, was identified as the woman who gave birth on a Manhattan subway on Wednesday. Saint Pierre had disappeared from her home in Hallandale Beach, Florida, and her family reported her missing in September. The last known sighting of her was by her ex-boyfriend in the Hallandale Beach area on August 5, 2024.

The Hallandale Beach police had classified Saint Pierre as an endangered person due to her pregnancy and potential need for services. Her family had expressed concern over her disappearance, noting that it was unusual given her excitement about her pregnancy. Saint Pierre had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, according to her family.

Saint Pierre’s disappearance followed an argument with her ex-boyfriend, who is believed to be the father of her child. The next time she was seen was on Wednesday, when she went into labor on a southbound W train in Midtown Manhattan.

The dramatic event was captured on social media, with several passengers assisting Saint Pierre in delivering her baby on the subway car’s floor. One witness shared the experience on Instagram, noting the surreal nature of witnessing a birth on a train and a stranger cutting the umbilical cord.

Saint Pierre’s sister, Stephania, recognized her younger sibling in the video due to a distinctive pink duffel bag. Until the video went viral, Stephania had no idea where her pregnant sister was. Upon seeing her newborn niece, Stephania expressed her joy and surprise to the New York Times.

The reasons for Saint Pierre’s departure from Florida and the duration of her stay in New York remain unknown. Her mother, Chrismene Saint Pierre, was relieved to learn of her daughter’s safety and the birth of her grandchild. She expressed her anticipation of welcoming her daughter back home.

The eventful morning commute ended at the 34th Street-Herald Square station, where passengers alerted the conductor about the birth. First responders and an MTA official found Saint Pierre and her newborn alert and conscious. The mother and child were taken to Bellevue Hospital in good condition, according to NYC Transit president Demetrius Crichlow, who humorously nicknamed the newborn “Baby W” after the train line she was born on.
