A Texas woman, 29-year-old Brandy Rachelle Brown, was arrested on Monday after allegedly leaving her 3-year-old son unattended in an illegally parked car that was later towed. Brown was inside a club at the time of the incident, according to court records.
The Houston Police Department responded to a call around 12:25 a.m. on Monday about an illegally parked car on Wheeler Street. A local tow truck driver had towed the vehicle, only to discover a child asleep in the backseat later.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office clarified that the tow truck driver had moved Brown’s Acura a short distance from its original location before securing it. This is a common practice among tow truck drivers to avoid confrontations with vehicle owners.
Upon securing the vehicle, the tow truck driver noticed the sleeping child in the backseat and immediately contacted the authorities. Court documents reveal that Brown had left her son in the car for at least 28 minutes while she was in the club.
The complaint further alleges that Brown put her child in “imminent danger” of physical and mental harm by leaving him alone in the car at night while she was drinking at a nightclub. The car was then towed with the child still inside.
Brown has a history of legal issues, including charges for driving under the influence and interfering with public servant duties. She was convicted on the DUI charge and did not possess a valid license at the time of her recent arrest.
The toddler was examined by medical professionals and found to be in good health. He has since been placed in the care of a family member. Brown was taken to the Harris County Jail and later released after posting a $7,500 bond.
