A 52-year-old Florida woman, Sayda Orellana Castellanos, was recently taken into custody on charges of aggravated battery and child abuse resulting in significant bodily harm. The arrest followed an incident in which she allegedly assaulted her daughter with a metal guitar. The incident reportedly occurred after the mother had to wait for over 10 minutes outside her daughter’s school while the girl conversed with boys.
According to an arrest affidavit, a police officer responded to a domestic violence call at a residence in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood around 5 p.m. on a Monday. Orellana Castellanos reportedly told the officer that she had gone to pick up her daughter from school and became frustrated when she had to wait for more than 10 minutes for her daughter to come outside.
The affidavit further stated that the mother discovered her daughter had been talking to boys during the wait. This led to a heated argument between the mother and daughter while they were driving home. The daughter reported to the police that her mother began to verbally abuse her, using derogatory terms.
The altercation escalated once they reached home. The daughter retreated to her room, but Orellana Castellanos allegedly followed her, continuing the verbal assault. The situation turned physical when Orellana Castellanos claimed her daughter punched her in the face. In response, the mother is accused of grabbing her daughter by the hair, dragging her into the hallway, and slapping her until she fell.
The affidavit alleges that Orellana Castellanos then grabbed a metal guitar hanging on the wall and struck her daughter multiple times, causing severe injuries to her face and body. The mother is also accused of hitting her daughter with a broomstick, breaking it in the process.
The victim’s sister reportedly recorded the incident. The police reviewed the footage, which corroborated the victim’s account. The victim suffered numerous lacerations and scratches on her face, a bruised eyelid, and marks on her back. The affidavit stated that the injuries sustained by the daughter showed clear indications of permanent disfigurement.
Emergency medical personnel treated the girl’s injuries at the scene. The police arrested Orellana Castellanos and transported her to the Miami-Dade County jail. She has since posted a $3,500 bond and is scheduled for a court hearing on March 5.
