Mother Used as Human Shield in Mass Shooting

A violent episode unfolded in the Bronx’s bustling Williamsbridge neighborhood on Wednesday evening, resulting in injuries to six individuals. The attack was initiated by two unidentified persons who began shooting on a crowded street, primarily targeting a group gathered outside a local convenience store. Among those injured were a 40-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter, who were tragically caught in the crossfire.

Law enforcement officials have reported that the mother and daughter were used as human shields by the intended targets of the attack. The mother suffered a gunshot wound to her abdomen, while her daughter was struck in the leg. Both were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and are currently reported to be in stable condition.

The incident took place around 5 p.m., leading officers from the 47th Precinct to respond to multiple reports of gunfire on White Plains Road. Surveillance footage revealed two suspects crossing the street and opening fire on the group outside the store. As the shooting escalated, several individuals sought refuge inside the store.

One of the intended targets reportedly used the woman as a shield, resulting in her injury. Besides the mother and daughter, four young men, aged between 18 and 21, were also injured, sustaining gunshot wounds to their arms and legs.

The suspects, identified as Black males, one wearing a black Nike tracksuit and the other a gray hoodie, fled the scene immediately after the shooting. The motive behind the attack remains unclear. However, authorities are working diligently to identify the shooters and their intended targets.

This shocking act of violence has raised concerns among community members about the safety of their neighborhood. As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The timing of the attack, just days before New Year’s celebrations, has heightened anxiety in the area. Mayor Eric Adams has reassured residents that security measures will be increased during the holiday period to prevent further incidents. As the investigation continues, the community anxiously awaits justice and a return to normalcy.
