Mystery Unfolds: Former NFL Player Missing After Mother Found Dead Near Creek

Authorities in Maywood, Illinois, are on the lookout for Sergio Brown, a former NFL player, after his mother, Myrtle Brown, was discovered dead near a creek behind her home on September 16.

Family members reported the pair missing on Saturday, prompting a search by the Maywood Police Department. Sergio Brown, who attended Proviso East High School and the University of Notre Dame, played as a safety in the NFL for seven seasons from 2010 to 2017.

During a subsequent search, law enforcement found Myrtle Brown unresponsive close to the creek behind her residence. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled her death a homicide, stating that she had suffered multiple injuries during an assault. Sergio Brown’s whereabouts remain unknown, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Nick Brown, Myrtle Brown’s son and Sergio Brown’s brother, took to Facebook to remember his mother as a strong and caring woman. He expressed his love for his brother and pleaded for him to come home. Detectives are asking anyone with information about Sergio Brown’s location to contact the Maywood Police Investigations or the anonymous tip line.

The investigation into Myrtle Brown’s death is ongoing, and police have not released any information regarding possible suspects. Sheila Simmons, Myrtle Brown’s sister, revealed that she last spoke to her on Thursday and became concerned when she received a call early Saturday morning reporting their disappearance. Simmons described the situation as abnormal, as her sister had not been answering calls or messages since Friday.

Authorities are determined to uncover the truth behind Myrtle Brown’s tragic death and locate Sergio Brown. As the investigation continues, the community is urged to provide any information that may assist the police in their search for answers.
