South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron, known for her roles in the action film “The Man from Nowhere” and the thriller “The Neighbor,” was found dead in her Seoul home on Sunday. The 24-year-old actress, who began her acting career at the tender age of nine, was discovered by a friend who had arranged to meet her.
Kim Sae-ron’s rise to fame was marred by a drunk driving incident in May 2022, which led to her retreat from the public eye. The incident involved her crashing her car into a roadside electrical transformer box, causing public embarrassment and leading her to step back from her acting career.
Following the incident, Kim was fined 20 million won (approximately $13,850) and ceased accepting acting roles. She also relinquished her role in the drama series “Trolley.” Despite her attempts to return to acting the following year, she withdrew due to health concerns.
The actress was found deceased around 4:50 p.m. local time. Police, who are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, have not found any indications of foul play so far.
Despite her personal struggles, Kim’s acting career was marked by several accolades. She was recognized as “Best New Actress” at multiple Korean arts awards ceremonies and starred in the Netflix action series “Bloodhounds” in 2023, which was her most recent work.
Kim’s untimely death has left the South Korean entertainment industry in shock, as she was a beloved figure who had made significant contributions to the field despite her young age. The cause of her death remains under investigation.
