A 22-year-old woman from Georgia is facing attempted murder charges after her boyfriend allegedly discovered a newborn baby boy in a trash bag on their back porch. The woman, identified as Alaynah Rappuhn, was taken into custody on April 1, following her release from Piedmont Macon Hospital where she had been treated for excessive bleeding.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office reported that Rappuhn’s boyfriend had noticed her deteriorating health on the afternoon of March 31 and had taken her to the hospital. Prior to their departure, Rappuhn had left a trash bag on the back porch of their residence. Upon his return to collect some of her belongings, the boyfriend noticed movement from the bag.
Upon opening the bag, he discovered a newborn baby boy wrapped in towels. The infant was immediately taken to the hospital where he is reported to be alive but in critical condition.
According to a media release from the sheriff’s office, Rappuhn had not informed her boyfriend about her pregnancy or the birth of the child. It is believed that she gave birth around 4:30 a.m. on March 31, after which she wrapped the baby in towels and placed him in the trash bag.
Rappuhn also did not disclose to the hospital staff that she had given birth when she was admitted on March 31. Following her release from the hospital on April 1, police responded to the emergency room and took her into custody.
Rappuhn has been charged with attempted murder, reckless abandonment of a child, and first-degree cruelty to children. Following a court appearance, she was ordered to be held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center without bond.
