A deadly shooting incident unfolded just before 8 p.m. on Sunday outside Fuzzy’s Sports Bar & Grill on South Highland Avenue, resulting in one fatality and four injuries, as per local law enforcement. The victim who lost his life was identified as 24-year-old Jordan Javontay Walls, found in the bar’s parking lot. Four other men, ranging in age from 22 to 27, were treated for gunshot injuries at Morton Plant Hospital, having been transported there by a private vehicle.
The investigation into the tragic event is currently underway, with detectives examining surveillance footage from neighboring businesses and conducting interviews with potential witnesses. Although no arrests have been made yet, the police have indicated that the shooting does not seem to be a random act of violence. They are appealing to the public for any information that could help identify the suspects and establish a motive.
The police were alerted to the incident when reports of gunfire started coming in shortly before 8 p.m. on Sunday. Upon reaching the scene, officers found Walls in the parking lot and immediately began securing the area. Shortly thereafter, they were informed by hospital staff that four additional gunshot victims had been admitted, brought in by a private vehicle whose driver left without interacting with the officers.
Clearwater Police spokesman Rob Shaw stated that detectives are working tirelessly to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting and the number of individuals involved. One of the injured men was later transferred to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg due to the severity of his injuries.
By Monday morning, the identities of the five victims had been released to the public. Besides Walls, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the injured included Teron Albert Dudley, 27; Jaheim Jabez Maxie, 23; Lamar Johnson, 23; and Antwone Jackquezz Holmes, 22. Detectives suspect that two men dressed in dark clothing fled the scene following the shooting.
Investigators are currently scrutinizing security footage from the surrounding area to track movements before and after the shooting. They are also trying to locate the vehicle that transported the four wounded men to the hospital, as this could provide a crucial lead in piecing together the sequence of events.
Fuzzy’s Sports Bar & Grill is situated on a commercial strip south of downtown Clearwater, an area known for its small shops, restaurants, and service businesses. On Sunday evenings, the area typically draws football fans and local traffic. The police are still trying to determine whether a dispute that escalated into the shooting began inside the bar or in the parking lot.
As the investigation progresses, the police intend to release further updates as they confirm details, including the number of shooters, the type of weapon used, and the motive. They have stated that they will hold another briefing if a suspect description is refined or if an arrest warrant is issued.
