Park Shooting Kills Teen and Father

A tragic incident unfolded in Liberty City, Texas, when a young man allegedly shot and killed his 16-year-old girlfriend and her father at a local park. The Gregg County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred on Monday afternoon at Hugh Camp Memorial Park.

The victims were identified as 16-year-old Hailey Nicole Blake and her father, 49-year-old Shawn Glen Blake. Both were declared dead at the scene. The suspect in the case is Christopher Wayne Hicks Jr., who was reportedly in a relationship with Hailey Blake.

Hicks was transported to the hospital with severe injuries, believed to be the result of self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Chief Deputy Craig Harrington of the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office stated that the incident appears to be a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence. He confirmed that no other injuries were reported at the park, aside from the three individuals directly involved in the incident.

The sheriff’s office also reported that two off-duty first responders were present at the park at the time of the shooting and immediately rushed to aid the victims. The office is currently working on securing charges against Hicks, who remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Hailey Blake was a student at Sabine High School, a fact confirmed by Harrington. The school district expressed its sorrow over the loss of a student in a statement released on Monday night. The district also announced that additional support and counseling would be available on campus for students and staff. The statement concluded with a request for prayers for the affected families, the school, and the community.
